BALI BBQ SAUCE

When our in-house Balinese Chef, Maya introduced us to her recipe for Original Naughty Bali BBQ Sauce, it blew our minds. Beautifully balanced with aromatics and traditional Balinese flavors - ginger, garlic, tamarind and lemongrass - plus a dare-we-say "Naughty" kick of 7 Pot Brain Strain, we knew it'd be a flaming hit. But was it hot enough?

And sure, Original Naughty Bali BBQ Sauce is hot. But is it Indonesian hot? 

We tested this theory, and the reality was... it wasn't. Chef Maya, who grew up in Indonesia, and I, after 30+ years in Bali, know true Indo heat, and we wanted to bring it to this side of the world.

So, we amped up the 7 Pot Brain Strain (a chili related to the Scorpion pepper, so hot one pepper can spice seven pots and strain your brain with every bite!), then harnessed it with aromatics, coconut nectar and our signature Coco Aminos. The result doesn't strip your tongue or melt your face ... immediately. Instead, it takes a beat. You taste your food first, then the sauce shifts, takes on another personality, and transports you straight to Bali! 

In any dose you choose, this sauce takes BBQ to an entirely new level of flavor and heat. It adds a fourth dimension to cruciferous salads and veg, and brings rhythm and fire to noodles, rice and grain bowls. A drop, spot or dollop in chili or curry will make your tastebuds dance and your spoon dive back in for more. Flavor first. Heat second.

FLAVOR PROFILE

This Bali BBQ sauce is Oh So Naughty. It teases with a familiar heat, flavor-forward with ginger, garlic and onion, finished with a tail of lemongrass. Then the heat hits. Hard. It starts at the back and makes its way forward. Arguably, you can still taste what's in front of you, but if you haven't been in training - or you have a baby tongue - you will absolutely need a glass of milk (your choice of white stuff) or beer. And guess what? You'll go back for more. It's THAT good. It lingers in your mind (and in your mouth), leaving you wondering what ELSE you want to put it on.

USES

Slather and grill proteins or veggies on the BBQ - or roast in the oven. Toss & top noodles, fried rice, or grain bowls for a Bali street-food glow up. Dip-and-dunk fries, pizza, burgers, wings or tacos (fresh or leftovers!). And don't forget sandwiches - give condiments a kick by swirling into mayo, ketchup, hummus or slather it on unabashedly!
