"Harvesting Nira from over 20 coconut palms on his land for over 10 years"

This is Kriswanto…goes by Kris. He lives in Kalirejo village in Kulonprogo, about an 90 minutes outside the city of Yogyakarta in Central Java.

Kris is part of the Menoreh Politan coconut sugar cooperative which is centered in his area. He’s been harvesting Nira from over 20 coconut palms on his land for over 10 years.

Kriswanto, 41 years old, is one of the youngest leaders in the supply chain in Kulonprogo; he’s a major proponent of agroforestry and operates an incredible food forest farm of about 2 acres.

Fun fact, Kris was one of the first farmers in our supply chain to join our Regenerative Organic Certification with Regenerative Organic Alliance (ROA). Kris’ Coconut palms grow amidst a canopy of Durian, Jackfruit and Mahogany trees with an understory of coffee, cacao, papaya and bananas creating a dense forest feel.

As lush groundcover, Indonesian spices such as Ginger, Turmeric and Galangal dominate and goats wander about nibbling leaves in return for their precious fertilizer. It’s an amazing example of a truly regenerative system at work!
