This is Kirman. He lives in Caringin Nunggal village in Sukabumi, West Java. He is one of 4540 farmers within our organic certification. He’s a member of the Perkumpulan Tani Warung Waru, which is a farmer’s association located in the Sukabumi area.
Kirman has been harvesting Nira from coconut flowers for just over 4 years after moving from the harvest and processing of coconut for copra (dried coconut meat for oil). Kirman, 35 years old, is one of the youngest farmers in his region.
He and his wife, Tuti, cook the fresh flower nectar into granulated coconut sugar and, on a daily basis can produce almost 30lbs! In his free time, Kirman, an avid gardener, tends to other plants in his garden, such as pineapples, lemongrass, and other spices and tubers.
